Tetrachloroethylene
Tetrachloroethylene, also known as perchloroethylene or 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane, is a colorless, non-flammable liquid with a sharp, ether-like odor and the chemical formula C₂Cl₄. Its CAS number is 127-18-4, and its UN number is 1897. Tetrachloroethylene is widely used in the dry cleaning industry highly effective in removing grease and stains from fabrics. It also serves as a metal degreasing agent in industrial processes, capable of dissolving stubborn lubricants and contaminants from metal surfaces. Additionally, it finds applications in the production of fluorocarbons (such as refrigerants) and as a component in certain paint removers and cleaning solutions. In addition, it is also used in chemical synthesis and intermediates, medicine, and other industries.
